Fatal Collision in West Delhi: Man Killed in Scooter Crash with Speeding Car, Arrest Made

In a tragic incident that occurred early Sunday morning in West Delhi’s Moti Nagar, a 36-year-old man lost his life after his scooter was struck by a speeding car. The authorities swiftly apprehended the woman who was driving the car, a black BMW, and seized the vehicle. The victim, identified as Ajay Gupta, was a resident of Basai Darapur in West Delhi and operated a grocery shop. He had gone to a hospital to purchase medicine and was returning home when the accident took place around 4 am. The woman responsible for the collision is a 28-year-old architect residing in Ashok Vihar with her family. According to the police, she was returning home after attending a party in Greater Kailash. The incident came to the attention of the police when they received a PCR call reporting the accident near Moti Nagar Metro station at 4:08 am. Responding swiftly, a police team arrived at the scene to find the damaged vehicles, but both drivers were absent.

Additionally, a damaged generator, which had been struck by the car during the accident, was discovered nearby. Further investigation revealed that the woman had transported Gupta to a nearby EBG hospital, from where he was later transferred to ESI hospital by his relatives. Tragically, Gupta succumbed to his injuries during treatment. The police promptly registered an FIR under Sections 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (causing death due to negligence and rash driving) of the IPC (Indian Penal Code) and arrested the accused. However, she was released on bail. The victim’s body was sent for autopsy to ascertain the cause of death. To determine the involvement of alcohol, the police have obtained samples from the woman for testing, awaiting the report.

The investigation will also focus on the woman’s claim that the victim suddenly appeared in front of her car, making it difficult for her to control the vehicle. CCTV footage from cameras near the accident site is being examined, and a mechanical inspection of the car will be conducted to gather further information about the incident, according to police officials. The tragic accident sparked protests by the victim’s family and locals, who expressed their discontent with the police and authorities. They temporarily blocked the road and voiced their demands for stringent action. The police, in response, assured the protesters that appropriate measures would be taken to address the situation.
