Godrej & Boyce and Renmakch Sign MoU to Develop ‘Make-in-India’ Value Chain for Indian Railways

Godrej & Boyce, the flagship company of the Godrej Group, and Renmakch, a Turkey-based rail technology company, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a ‘Make-in-India’ value chain for the Indian Railways. The agreement was signed on 2nd March 2023, and the two companies aim to promote the development of rail infrastructure in India through the manufacture and supply of rail components and systems.

The MoU was signed by Mr. Jamshyd Godrej, Chairman, and Managing Director of Godrej & Boyce, and Mr. Mehmet Rencber, Chairman of Renmakch. The ceremony was attended by senior officials from both companies, including Mr. Sujit Patil, Head of Marketing and Communications at Godrej & Boyce, and Mr. Ali Aygun, Sales Director at Renmakch.

The partnership between Godrej & Boyce and Renmakch will focus on the manufacture of rail components such as door systems, lighting systems, and HVAC systems for trains. The two companies will also collaborate on the development of signaling and communication systems for the railways. The aim is to create a complete ‘Make-in-India’ value chain for the Indian Railways, from the design to the manufacturing and installation of rail components and systems.

Godrej & Boyce has a long history of manufacturing products for the Indian Railways, including locking systems for train compartments, railway signaling systems, and brake systems for locomotives. The company has also developed a range of products for other industries such as consumer goods, furniture, and security solutions.

Renmakch is a leading manufacturer of rail technology products, including door systems, lighting systems, and HVAC systems for trains. The company has a strong presence in the European market and has supplied products to rail operators in Germany, France, and Italy.

The partnership between Godrej & Boyce and Renmakch is significant for the Indian Railways, as it will help to promote the development of local manufacturing capabilities in the rail sector. The ‘Make-in-India’ initiative, launched by the Indian government in 2014, aims to promote the manufacturing of products in India and reduce the country’s dependence on imports.
