Ten Indian nationals, including three women, have been apprehended in Kathmandu, Nepal for allegedly obtaining Nepali citizenship cards illegally through the use of counterfeit documents. The arrests were made by the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office after a three-month-long investigation. The individuals, all hailing from Bihar, were engaged in the confectionery business and operated sweet shops within Nepal.
The accused were found to have acquired Nepali citizenship certificates from district administration offices in Rupandehi, Bara, and Parsa districts using fraudulent means. The police confiscated several documents, including Nepali citizenship certificates, voter identity cards, Indian passports, and Aadhar cards, during the operation.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Ravindra Regmi, the arrested individuals had been residing in Nepal for an extended period, with some having arrived as early as 2006. The Kathmandu Valley Police Office revealed the identities of the suspects during a press conference.
The incident highlights the importance of maintaining the integrity of citizenship and identification systems to prevent unlawful activities. The authorities in Nepal are actively investigating the matter and will likely take appropriate legal action against the individuals involved in this case of document forgery and illegal acquisition of citizenship.
