Imran Khan arrested outside the Islamabad High Court

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has reportedly been arrested by paramilitary forces outside the Islamabad High Court. The news was reported by Dawn, a prominent Pakistani newspaper, and has been met with widespread concern and confusion.

According to Fawad Chaudhry, the official spokesperson for Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the former prime minister was “abducted” from the court premises by unknown individuals. Scores of lawyers and other individuals were also allegedly tortured.

Khan’s whereabouts are currently unknown, and the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court has ordered the Secretary Interior and the IG police to appear in court within 15 minutes.

Khan has been implicated in over 100 cases since his ouster from power in April of last year. He was removed from office after losing a no-confidence vote, which he claimed was part of a US-led conspiracy targeting him due to his foreign policy decisions on Russia, China, and Afghanistan.

The news of Khan’s arrest has sparked concerns about the rule of law and human rights in Pakistan. Many are questioning the legitimacy of his arrest and the actions taken by the paramilitary forces. Some are also worried that this may be an attempt to silence political opposition and suppress dissent.

The situation in Pakistan is currently uncertain, and many are calling for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Khan’s arrest. It remains to be seen what the next steps will be and how this will impact the country’s political landscape.
