India Expects Varied Rainfall Patterns Across Regions as Monsoon System Weakens and Dissipates

In a recent press release, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) provided an update on the monsoon system over several regions in the country. The depression over north Chhattisgarh and its surroundings weakened and transformed into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area (LPA) in the same region. The LPA is expected to move gradually in a west-northwest direction towards northeast Madhya Pradesh and adjoining southeast Uttar Pradesh.

As it moves, the low-pressure area is likely to weaken further and eventually dissipate into the atmosphere. According to the IMD’s predictions, different regions will experience varying levels of rainfall in the coming days. East Madhya Pradesh is expected to witness light to moderate rainfall at most places, with heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few areas on Thursday and Friday. Similarly, West Madhya Pradesh may experience light to moderate rainfall in most regions with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on Thursday, followed by heavy rainfall at isolated places on Friday.

In Chhattisgarh, IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall at many places and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in the north on Thursday. On Friday, isolated places in the state may experience heavy rainfall. South Uttar Pradesh is predicted to experience light to moderate rainfall at most places, with isolated heavy rainfall until Sunday. Vidarbha, on the other hand, is likely to see light to moderate showers with isolated heavy rainfall on Thursday, according to IMD. Northwest India, including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and East Rajasthan, is expected to have scattered showers and fairly widespread rainfall until Wednesday, August 9.

Additionally, very heavy downpours are likely at isolated places in West Uttar Pradesh on Saturday and over Uttarakhand on Sunday. Northeast India is predicted to receive light to moderate, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy showers in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura throughout the week. West India will experience light to moderate, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy downpour continuing over Konkan, Goa, and ghat areas of central Maharashtra for the next two days. The remaining parts of western India are likely to see light to moderate isolated/scattered rainfall during the week.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu in South India is expected to face hot and humid weather for the next two days. Even the national capital, Delhi, received light rain on Friday morning, with the minimum temperature settling at 25.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season’s average, as reported by the Met office. The city is likely to receive moderate rainfall during the day, with the maximum temperature expected to settle around 35 degrees Celsius. As the monsoon system weakens and dissipates, India braces for varying rainfall patterns across its regions, providing both relief and challenges to different parts of the country.
