Wahab Riaz Appointed as Pakistan Chief Selector

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has named former fast bowler Wahab Riaz as the national team’s chief selector. The announcement was made on November 17, 2023, following the resignation of legendary batsman and ex-captain Inzamam-ul-Haq.

Riaz, who is also the sports advisor to the Punjab government, has played 27 Tests, 91 ODIs, and 36 T20Is for Pakistan. He was known for his aggressive bowling and was a key member of the team that won the 2017 Champions Trophy.

As chief selector, Riaz will be responsible for selecting the squads for all three formats of the game. He will be assisted by a panel of selectors, which is yet to be announced.

Riaz’s First Assignment

Riaz’s first assignment as chief selector will be to select the squads for the upcoming tours of Australia and New Zealand. The Pakistan team is scheduled to play two Tests and three ODIs against Australia in December 2023 and January 2024. They will then play three ODIs and five T20Is against New Zealand in January 2024.
