Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev has claimed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) “forgot” to invite him to the 2023 World Cup final, which was held in Ahmedabad on November 19.
Dev, who captained India to victory in the 1983 World Cup, made the claim in a video message that was shared on social media. In the video, Dev said that he was “hurt” by the BCCI’s omission and that he felt “disrespected” by the organization.
“I was very disappointed when I didn’t receive an invitation to the World Cup final,” Dev said. “I thought I would be there to support the team and to celebrate with them if they won. But I guess I was wrong.”
Dev’s claim has sparked outrage among cricket fans on social media, who have accused the BCCI of being “pathetic” and “disrespectful” to one of India’s greatest cricketers.
“This is just pathetic! How can the BCCI forget to invite Kapil Dev to the World Cup final?” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“This is a disgrace! Kapil Dev is a legend of the game and he deserves to be treated with respect,” another fan wrote.
The BCCI has not yet responded to Dev’s claim.
