In a surprising turn of events within the INDIA bloc in West Bengal, a visible rift has emerged between the Congress and Trinamool Congress (TMC). The disagreement centers around Mamata Banerjee’s offer of just two Lok Sabha seats to the Congress, sparking strong criticism from Bengal Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

Chowdhury expressed dissatisfaction with Banerjee’s offer, questioning the sincerity behind it. He highlighted that the two seats already have Congress MPs, emphasizing that the party had secured these victories by defeating both Mamata Banerjee’s TMC and the BJP. “What favor are they doing to us?” he remarked, dismissing the notion that the Congress needs Banerjee’s support.

The Bengal Congress president went on to challenge the credibility of Mamata Banerjee, questioning who would trust her. He asserted that it is Mamata who needs the Congress to secure victories. Chowdhury’s tone indicated a clear stance that the Congress is fully capable of independently winning more seats and doesn’t require the purported generosity from the TMC leader.

About TMC’s Seat Offer:

Responding to these accusations, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh accused Adhir Chowdhury of behaving like a BJP person. Ghosh pointed to the 2021 Assembly polls, where TMC fought alone and secured victory, while the Congress, in alliance with CPM, failed to win a single seat. He questioned Chowdhury’s credibility in light of these results, accusing the Congress of playing a double-faced game within the INDIA alliance.

The exchange of accusations between the Congress and TMC has escalated tensions within the Opposition, raising questions about the unity and cooperation essential for countering the BJP. As West Bengal remains a crucial battleground, the internal disputes within the INDIA bloc may have significant implications for the upcoming political landscape in the state. The unfolding drama underscores the complexities and challenges inherent in opposition alliances, with each party asserting its own narrative and strategic importance.
