Air India has reported the second mid-air incident of a same nature on an Air India flight within 10 days. Last year on November 26 last year, an inebriated man allegedly urinated on his female co-passenger in her seventies in the business class of the airline’s New York-New Delhi flight.
A report given by Tata Group-owned Air India to airline regulator DGCA on an incident of a drunk passenger allegedly urinating on the blanket of a female passenger on the airline’s Paris-New Delhi flight last month. A senior official has said this incident was not reported to the regulator.
On Thursday Air India confirmed the incident, which took place on December 6 last year.
The incident that took place last year on 26 November was the second mid-air incident of a similar nature. In this case, an inebriated man allegedly urinated on his female co-passenger in her seventies in the business class of the airline’s New York-New Delhi flight.
Further, the recent incident was also not reported to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Due to which the regulator pulled up the full-service carrier, stating its conduct was unprofessional and issued show cause notices to the airline, its director of flight safety and the crew that operated the New York-Delhi flight. DGCA asked them to explain within two weeks why action should not be taken against them.
The DGCA official told the Press that “Air India did not report the incident of a passenger urinating on the blanket of a female passenger. We have sought a report from the airline.” The official added to the statement that DGCA will mull any action against Air India after it receives the report from the airline. Whereas on the other hand, Air India has said, “Air India confirms that a passenger on Air India Flight 142 from Paris to Delhi on December 6, 2022, relieved himself on the vacant seat and blanket of a fellow passenger when the latter was in the lavatory. The crew identified and isolated the offender and reported the incident to authorities.
