In a significant operation, the Delhi Police successfully dismantled two gay sextortion rackets operating in the Southeast district. The police apprehended four individuals involved in trapping victims through a popular social media application called “Grindr.” The accused would exploit the victims’ fears of societal stigma and coerce them into complying with their illegal demands.
The victims, unwilling to face the consequences of exposure, ultimately succumbed and transferred the extorted funds to the perpetrators’ accounts. Acting swiftly, the police managed to seize two mobile phones allegedly used in the commission of the crimes from the possession of the arrested individuals. The District Commissioner of Police (Southeast), Rajesh Deo, confirmed the breakthrough, expressing satisfaction with the operation’s success. The investigation began after a complaint was lodged, leading to the registration of a case at the Amar Colony Police Station. The police invoked sections 384, 342, 506, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code in response to the gravity of the offenses.
Within a remarkably short span of 4-5 hours, law enforcement authorities managed to apprehend two criminals identified as Arun Kumar (22) and Vishal Kohli (24), both residents of Ghaziabad. Additionally, Rajesh Kumar (42), hailing from Sahabad Diary, Delhi, was also taken into custody during the ongoing investigation. Simultaneously, in another incident, the police initiated an inquiry following a complaint. Subsequently, Anuj alias Banda (21), a resident of Sarita Vihar, House No. 138, was arrested as a key suspect in the case. The successful busting of these two gay sextortion rackets by the Delhi Police is a testament to their commitment to curbing such criminal activities. The timely intervention and apprehension of the accused individuals bring hope for justice and serve as a deterrent to potential offenders.
