
The delegation of Indian students from the Ashoka Group of Schools in Nashik was successfully led by Lazarus Union CSLI India, Commander in Chief Dr. Dinesh Sabnis, to Vienna from May 26th to June 2nd, 2025. Lazarus Union is an international NGO that holds General Consultative Status with the United Nations ECOSOC and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017 for its dedicated efforts towards humanitarian support on a global scale. The organization focuses on aiding those in need, including the homeless and disabled, and operates civil protection groups in various countries. In recent years, Lazarus Union has effectively partnered with multiple delegations from Austria, Germany, India, Brazil, and Italy on projects related to the Sustainable Development Goals, which are closely aligned with the United Nations Charter.
Over the past four years, under the strong leadership of Dr. Dinesh Sabnis, Lazarus Union CSLI India has initiated a youth program designed to educate young individuals on topics such as UN Fundamentals, International Relations, Cultural Diplomacy, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Recently, during the 15th Anniversary of Lazarus Union at the Investiture ceremony, Commander in Chief Roberto Ortiz from Lazarus Union Brazil and Commander in Chief Antonio Virgili from Italy signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Dr. Dinesh Sabnis, the Commander in Chief of Lazarus Union India, to collaborate on various projects focused on education, youth development, peace, and the UN SDGs.
This year, Dr. Dinesh Sabnis, in collaboration with Lazarus Union International in Vienna, guided and facilitated a total of 20 students from the Ashoka Group of Schools. The focus was on platforms for understanding UN SDGs and topics in International Relations related to cultural diplomacy. During their tour, the students had the chance to visit the Austrian Parliament and the United Nations Vienna Office, where in Symposium they presented papers on subjects related to SDG-5 (Gender Equality), SDG-8 (Youth Development), SDG-13 (Environmental Care), and SDG-16 (Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions). During this Symposium First Secretary Excellency Ms. Nidhi Dhiman of Permanent Mission Office of India in UN Vienna was also present to motivate students and share on India role in unipolar and bipolar world. Furthermore, the students attended mentoring sessions at the Bankimoon Centre and the Diplomatic Academy. The cultural team performed on several occasions, showcasing Indian classical dance in Kathak. They also had the unique opportunity to meet H.E. Herta Margarete Habsburg, Princess of Tuscany and a member of the Habsburg Royal Family.
To commemorate the 15th Anniversary of the Lazarus Union, a special investiture ceremony was held by the Lazarus Union head office in Vienna, which included participation from numerous delegations worldwide. During this event, students from the Ashoka Group of Schools performed an Indian Kathak dance.
The successful execution of the 15th Anniversary of the Lazarus Union was made possible by the dedicated efforts of Chief Representative and General Secretary Oliver M. Gruber-Lavin, along with CFO Comrade Peter Scherer from the Lazarus Union Head Office in Austria.
Looking ahead, Lazarus Union India, in partnership with the Head Office and various delegations from countries such as Austria, Brazil, Italy, and Germany, plans to engage in events centered on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as well as other areas including Education, Youth Development, Peace, and Cultural Diplomacy.
