In a significant move to bolster their midfield, Liverpool Football Club is on the verge of signing RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai. The Premier League club has informed Leipzig that they intend to activate the player’s release clause of €70 million (£60.1 million). The 22-year-old Hungarian attacking midfielder played a pivotal role in Leipzig’s third-place finish in the Bundesliga and their triumph in the German Cup last season. Representatives from Liverpool have recently held a meeting with Szoboszlai’s camp, indicating the club’s strong interest in securing the talented midfielder’s services.

While Newcastle United had also been linked with Szoboszlai, Liverpool seems to have taken the lead in the pursuit, with the release clause set to expire on Friday. Szoboszlai enjoyed an impressive campaign last season, making 31 appearances in the Bundesliga, contributing six goals and eight assists. Since joining RB Leipzig from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in January 2021, the young playmaker has netted 20 goals and provided 21 assists in 91 appearances across all competitions. Notably, he scored a crucial goal in Leipzig’s 2-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt, securing the German Cup for the second consecutive season.

Liverpool has already made strides in reinforcing their midfield this summer, having secured the signature of Argentina international Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton for £35 million. With the departure of James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from the club, Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is keen to strengthen this area of the pitch. In a separate move, Liverpool forward Fabio Carvalho has joined RB Leipzig on a season-long loan. The 20-year-old Portuguese player, who joined Liverpool from Fulham last year, made 21 appearances for the Reds in the previous season, scoring three goals.

The loan move to Leipzig offers Carvalho the opportunity to gain valuable experience and further his development in Germany. Additionally, Liverpool has secured the services of Spanish goalkeeper Adrian for the 2023-24 campaign. Since joining the club on a free transfer from West Ham in 2019, Adrian has made 26 appearances for the Reds, providing reliable backup to first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

As Liverpool prepares to complete the signing of Dominik Szoboszlai, their proactive approach in the transfer market demonstrates their determination to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season. The addition of the talented Hungarian midfielder would undoubtedly provide a significant boost to the team’s midfield options, as they aim to compete for domestic and European honors.
