On Monday Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a programme to rename 21 islands of Andaman & Nicobar Islands after Param Vir Chakra awardees.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to give due honour and recognition to real-life heroes, the PM on Monday participated in a ceremony to name 21 largest unnamed Andaman and Nicobar Islands after 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees via video conferencing.
The move was taken on Parakram Diwas, also known as Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti. The national event is to mark the birth anniversary of prominent Indian freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
Actor Anupam Kher called the move “a fitting tribute to the warriors who made the supreme sacrifice.” An official said “The central government has taken this initiative to honour the Param Vir Chakra awardees. Of the 21 islands, 16 are located in North and Middle Andaman district, and five in South Andaman.”
PM Modi said that the “islands named today after Param Vir Chakra awardees will be site of inspiration for generations to come.” Home Minister Amit Shah, on Monday, said that the initiative to name islands after Param Vir Chakra awardees will ensure they are remembered forever.
The West Bengal CM was addressing a programme held on the occasion of the freedom fighter’s birth anniversary. Ms. Banerjee along with several dignitaries and family members of Bose paid tributes to the freedom fighter at the Red Road event.
PM Modi said “Today, the 21st century is seeing how Netaji Subhash, who was tried to be forgotten after independence, the country is remembering the same Netaji every moment.”
He added “For decades, there was a demand to declassify the files related to Netaji. The country also did this work with full devotion.” Speaking at the event, Shah said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to name islands after Param Vir Chakra awardees will ensure they are remembered forever.
