Ravi Sinha Appointed as New Chief of India’s External Intelligence Agency R&AW

Ravi Sinha, a senior IPS officer from the Chhattisgarh cadre, has been selected as the new chief of India’s external intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). Sinha’s appointment was confirmed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, and he will assume office after the completion of the incumbent chief Samant Goel’s tenure on June 30. Sinha, a 1988 batch Indian Police Service officer, is currently serving as the special secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat.

According to a personnel ministry order, Sinha will hold the position of R&AW chief for a period of two years. The order stated, “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Rajiv Sinha, IPS, special secretary, Cabinet Secretariat, as Secretary, Research and Analysis Wing vice Samant Goel on completion of his tenure on June 30, 2023, for a tenure of two years from the date of assumption of the charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.”

Ravi Sinha’s extensive experience in the Indian Police Service and his current role in the Cabinet Secretariat make him well-suited for this crucial position. As the head of R&AW, he will be responsible for overseeing India’s external intelligence operations, gathering and analyzing information relevant to national security and foreign policy.
