In a groundbreaking move, the Telangana government has allocated a substantial ₹50,000 crore as a subsidy on electricity, benefiting an impressive 72.41 lakh consumers from various sectors, including households, employment, and agriculture. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao proudly announced the significant impact of this initiative on Sunday, highlighting how the provision of continuous electricity has contributed to the economic development of farmers and uplifted the living conditions of low-income groups. Telangana stands apart as the only state to have triumphed over power cuts, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply to all sectors shortly after its formation.

The state government, in an official statement, revealed that the power generation capacity has skyrocketed from 7,778 MW in 2014 to an impressive 18,567 MW this year, thanks to a dedicated investment of ₹97,321 crore to bolster production and supply systems. A major focus of this massive subsidy initiative is on the agricultural sector, with a total of 27,48,598 agricultural electricity connections covered. Additionally, the government is bearing the power costs for 35,61,809 households belonging to families below the poverty line, whose monthly consumption is within 0-50 units of electricity. Notably, 25,00,433 scheduled caste community consumers using less than 101 units of electricity a month and 2,95,114 scheduled tribe community users are also receiving benefits.

The government’s generosity extends beyond the agricultural and household sectors, as it provides subsidies to various other businesses and enterprises. Poultry farm owners, hair cutting salon owners, laundry shop owners, and Dobhi Ghats are among the beneficiaries of this forward-thinking policy, receiving essential support to flourish in their respective fields. Furthermore, the Telangana government is fostering growth in the textile industry by supplying subsidized electricity to 5011 power looms and 39 spinning mills, facilitating economic progress and creating employment opportunities. The effects of this initiative have been remarkable, with the state’s economy experiencing a notable upswing and witnessing a surge in momentum.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao expressed his delight in witnessing the positive impact of the subsidy program, emphasizing its role in boosting economic growth across various sectors and improving the lives of millions. The subsidized electricity has not only empowered the agricultural community and low-income households but also invigorated businesses, leading to increased production and competitiveness in the market. The Telangana government’s unwavering commitment to providing uninterrupted electricity and supporting its citizens has set a shining example for other states. As a result, the state’s remarkable achievements in overcoming power shortages and fostering economic prosperity through the subsidy program have garnered widespread recognition and appreciation.
