In a devastating incident that occurred on Monday evening, three farmers tragically lost their lives after allegedly being run over by a vehicle belonging to a Public Works Department (PWD) official in Kanpur’s Bilhaur town. The vehicle, which was being driven by driver Ajeet Kumar Pandey, belonged to a junior engineer of the PWD Ayodhya.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the police revealed that Pandey was under the influence of alcohol while operating the car. According to SHO (Bilhaur) Surendra Singh, Pandey, after dropping off the junior engineer’s family in Sikandara, Kanpur Dehat, was en route to Ayodhya when he lost control of the vehicle on the Lucknow-Etawah road. As a result, the car tragically ran over three elderly farmers identified as Surendra Singh (62), Ahibaran Singh (63), and Ghaseete Yadav (65), who were standing by the side of the road, attending to their orchards. Regrettably, all three farmers succumbed to their injuries at the scene.Authorities suspect that Pandey was driving recklessly and negligently at the time of the fatal accident.
Following the incident, the accused driver fled the scene, leaving behind the damaged SUV car. However, he was subsequently apprehended by the police. An FIR has been registered at the Bilhaur police station under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to investigate the matter further. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting authorities to take swift action.
