In a resounding show of solidarity, the executive and legislative branches of the United States government have vehemently denounced the recent surge in Khalistani extremist violence and vandalism targeting Indian diplomatic premises and threatening Indian diplomatic personnel. The National Security Council (NSC), the State Department, and Congress have all united in their condemnation, vowing to combat these acts of aggression. The US State Department has taken proactive measures, declaring its commitment to safeguarding Indian diplomatic facilities and personnel. In response to queries about the US response to the attempted arson at the Indian consulate in San Francisco (SF) and the escalating incidents of violence, Donald Lu, the assistant secretary of State for South and Central Asia, confirmed that the US “strongly condemned” the reported acts of vandalism and attempted arson.

Lu stressed that any form of violence or vandalism against diplomatic facilities or foreign diplomats in the United States constitutes a criminal offense. Accordingly, the State Department has initiated a comprehensive strategy, collaborating closely with federal, state, and local law enforcement authorities to ensure the safety and security of the Indian Embassy and Consulates, as well as the individuals working within them. This coordinated action aligns with the obligations stipulated in the Vienna Conventions, which govern diplomatic relations. The US government recognizes the urgency to address the issue, particularly in light of a second attack against the Indian consulate in San Francisco within a span of just three months.

Influential legislators have voiced their concerns, urging authorities to take more decisive action. Acknowledging these calls, the State Department affirms its commitment to intensifying efforts to prevent violence and protect diplomatic missions from further harm. The escalation of Khalistani extremist violence and the targeted attacks on Indian diplomatic premises pose a serious threat to the peaceful coexistence of nations. The US government remains committed to upholding the principles of international law, respecting the inviolability of diplomatic missions, and ensuring the safety of foreign diplomats within its borders.

As global partners, the United States and India share a common commitment to democratic values, human rights, and the rule of law. By condemning these acts of violence and taking decisive action to protect Indian diplomatic facilities and personnel, the US government sends a clear message: it will not tolerate the violation of diplomatic norms and will actively work towards preventing any further incidents of violence. As the situation unfolds, the collaborative efforts between the executive and legislative branches of the US government, alongside their Indian counterparts, aim to restore peace, security, and mutual respect in diplomatic relations.
