Air Marshal A.P. Singh Named New Vice Chief of Indian Air Force

The Indian Air Force has announced the appointment of Air Marshal A.P. Singh as its new Vice Chief. Air Marshal Singh is a highly decorated officer with over 36 years of experience in the Indian Air Force, and has held a variety of key positions during his career.

In his new role as Vice Chief, Air Marshal Singh will be responsible for overseeing the operational readiness of the Indian Air Force, as well as its modernization and transformation efforts. He will play a key role in ensuring the readiness of the Air Force to respond to a wide range of threats and challenges, both domestically and internationally.

Throughout his career, Air Marshal Singh has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and a commitment to the mission of the Indian Air Force. He has served in a variety of operational and administrative positions, including commanding a fighter squadron, serving as the Air Officer Commanding of a major air base, and serving as the Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Operations) at Air Headquarters.

In recognition of his contributions to the Indian Air Force, Air Marshal Singh has been awarded several awards and decorations, including the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, the Vayu Sena Medal, and the Param Vishisht Seva Medal.

Air Marshal A P Singh attended the National Defence Academy, the Defence Services Staff College, and the National Defence College. He is a Qualified Flying Instructor and an Experimental Test Pilot with over 4,900 hours of flight time in fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
He has served as the Flight Commander and Commanding Officer of a MiG 27 squadron, as well as the Air Officer Commanding of an air base. As a test pilot, he has held several levels and capabilities at the Aircraft and System Testing Establishment.

In Moscow, Russia, he also commanded the MiG 29 Upgrade Project Management Team. He was the Project Director (Flight Test) of the National Flight Test Centre, in charge of the flight testing of the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas, and the South Western Air Command’s Air Defence Commander. He was Senior Air Staff Officer in the Eastern Air Command before becoming Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Central Air Command.
