In a refreshing revelation, popular Indian actor Hansika Motwani has shared her experience of overcoming regional biases within the fashion industry. The actor, known primarily for her work in South Indian films, disclosed that until a few years ago, designers would often refuse to provide her with clothes due to her association with the regional cinema. However, she noted a significant shift in recent years, with those very designers now eagerly offering their creations for her trailer launches and other events. Hansika expressed no resentment towards them, instead embracing the change with grace.
Speaking to Gulte.com in an interview, Hansika shed light on the discrimination she faced, saying, “There have been many designers and they were like ‘oh, no South actor, we don’t want to give you clothes.’ But now, they themselves come ahead and they are like ‘oh you have an event, you have a trailer launch, why don’t you wear us?’ I politely said yes. There has to be a difference between them and me, right?”
The talented actor, who recently tied the knot with her longtime boyfriend Sohael Kathuria in Rajasthan, emphasized her lack of grudges towards the designers who previously ignored her. She revealed her resilient mindset, sharing, “I was like ‘they will come back, I will work really hard.’ And when the same people have come back, I am like ‘now you want to style me, dress me, fair enough’.”
Despite the challenges she faced, Hansika firmly considers herself an Indian actor, irrespective of the films she has been associated with. She stated, “Few words don’t describe me. I always said I am an Indian actor, I work in Indian cinema. These lines are getting blurred. I’ve been acting for a while now, and I’ve always been said I’m an Indian cinema actor.”
With her candid and positive outlook, Hansika Motwani has set an inspiring example of breaking stereotypes and overcoming regional biases. Her experiences highlight the evolving nature of the entertainment industry and the need to recognize talent beyond boundaries. As she prepares for her upcoming film “Man,” produced by Madras Talkies, Hansika continues to captivate audiences with her versatile acting skills, while fostering inclusivity and unity in the realm of Indian cinema.
