Navy Celebrates Nari Shakti: Women Empowerment at Republic Day Parade

The Indian Navy’s tableau for the upcoming Republic Day parade will showcase the theme of “Nari Shakti,” or women’s empowerment, in an effort to highlight the role of women in the Navy and their contributions to the defense of the country. The tableau will feature a replica of the INSV Tarini, the first all-women crewed vessel to circumnavigate the globe. The vessel was skippered by Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi, Pratibha Jamwal, P Swathi, and Lieutenant Aishwarya Boddapati, who completed the journey in 2018-2019.

The tableau will also depict the role of women in various branches of the Navy such as navigation, operations, and logistics. The tableau will also showcase the role of women in maritime security, which has become a crucial aspect of the Navy’s operations. The Indian Navy has been actively promoting the participation of women in its ranks and has taken several steps to ensure their empowerment. The Navy has opened up several branches and positions for women, including as pilots, observers, and logistics officers.

In recent years, the Navy has also been actively recruiting women in its various branches and has set a target of having at least 15% of its workforce as women by 2022. The Navy has also introduced various measures such as flexible working hours, childcare facilities, and support systems to enable women to balance their professional and personal lives. The Navy’s tableau at the Republic Day parade is a testament to the Indian Navy’s commitment to promoting women’s empowerment and recognizing their contributions to the defense of the country. It is also a tribute to the brave women who have served and continue to serve in the Indian Navy.

Amrith, a navy air operations officer, will head the group of 144 sailors, who will be accompanied by another female officer, Sub Lt Valli Meena S, one of three platoon leaders. According to the Navy, the two others are Lt. Ashwani Singh and SLt. M Aditya. M Antony Raj, MCPO (Musician Second Class), will lead its world-renowned brass band of 80 musicians, while Lt. Cdr. Inderjeet Chauhan will serve as overall Tableau Commander.
