President Biden Announces $375 Million Military Aid Package for Ukraine at G7 Summit

During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan, US President Joe Biden announced a substantial military aid package of $375 million to bolster Ukraine’s defense capabilities in its ongoing conflict with Russia. The aid package comprises ammunition, artillery, armored vehicles, and training support. Assuring President Zelensky of unwavering support, President Biden emphasized that the United States, along with the entire G7, stands firmly behind Ukraine.

He pledged that the US would continue to strengthen Ukraine’s defense and reaffirmed his country’s commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s long-term capacity to defend against and deter Russian aggression. In line with this objective, President Biden discussed plans for a collaborative effort with allied and partner nations to provide training for Ukrainian pilots on fourth-generation fighter aircraft, including the F-16. By expanding Ukraine’s military capabilities and enhancing its air force, the United States aims to assist in safeguarding Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

President Zelensky expressed gratitude for the new aid package and acknowledged the ongoing financial assistance that Ukraine has received from the United States, totaling $37 billion to date. The announcement of this military aid reinforces the strong alliance between the two countries and signifies a continued commitment to supporting Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression.
