In a bid to exert further pressure on the Congress leadership and address alleged corruption in Rajasthan, dissident leader Sachin Pilot launched a five-day yatra. Taking a veiled swipe at Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Pilot demanded a fair investigation into corruption that occurred during the BJP’s rule in the state. He emphasized that he never resorted to using offensive language but maintained that it did not imply a lack of self-respect.
During the inaugural event of his 125-kilometer foot march from Ajmer to Jaipur, Pilot asserted that despite holding the position of deputy chief minister, he felt compelled to take action in order to fulfill the aspirations of the people of Rajasthan. He reiterated his commitment to maintaining a respectful approach and highlighted that refraining from foul language should not be misconstrued as a lack of self-esteem.
Pilot’s recent act of defiance came a month after he ignored a party warning and organized a daylong fast, aiming to draw attention to Gehlot’s alleged inaction regarding corruption. Expressing disappointment in the lack of a genuine investigation, Pilot declared that it had become evident that no action would be taken. He appealed for support in his endeavors, metaphorically referring to the scorching heat as a formidable obstacle that they must overcome together.
Addressing the media, Pilot emphasized that his demands were rooted in ideology rather than personal motives. Responding to speculations about his potential departure from the party, he dismissed the need for speculation, stating that his actions and statements were transparent and openly expressed. He disavowed any ambition for a higher position and asserted that his politics were well-known to all.
The yatra, spanning five days, focuses not only on corruption but also on instances of paper leaks in government recruitment exams. Pilot clarified that the purpose of his march was to address these pertinent issues and was not aimed at targeting any individual specifically.
In response to the dissidence within the party, Chief Minister Gehlot indirectly acknowledged the importance of inclusivity in democracy, suggesting that those who foster unity are more likely to succeed than those who sow divisions.
However, the state unit chief of Congress, Govind Singh Dotasra, downplayed Pilot’s yatra, dismissing it as a personal endeavor rather than an organized effort by the party.
As the state elections approach, Sachin Pilot’s yatra has intensified the pressure on the Congress leadership, highlighting the ongoing internal rift within the party and the challenges it faces in retaining power in Rajasthan.
