Former Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated the Global Conference & Expo on Traditional Medicine on March 3, 2023, in Guwahati. The event was organized by the Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) Ministry, Government of India, and was attended by several delegates and experts from across the globe.
The theme of the conference was “Strengthening Traditional Medicine: Building Better Health for Future Generations”. The objective of the conference was to provide a platform for various stakeholders, including researchers, practitioners, and policymakers, to share their experiences, knowledge, and ideas on the promotion and development of traditional medicine.
During his inaugural speech, Sonowal emphasized the importance of traditional medicine in the current scenario, where people are seeking more natural and holistic approaches to healthcare. He said that traditional medicine systems like Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy have a rich heritage and immense potential in addressing the health challenges of modern times.
Sonowal also highlighted the efforts of the Government of India in promoting traditional medicine, including the establishment of the AYUSH Ministry in 2014 and the National Ayush Mission, which aims to provide accessible and affordable healthcare to all.
Several experts from various countries shared their research and experiences on traditional medicine during the conference. Dr. Pankaj Naram, a renowned Ayurvedic practitioner from India, spoke about the benefits of Ayurvedic treatment for chronic diseases like diabetes, arthritis, and hypertension. Dr. Jong Yeol Kim from South Korea shared his experiences on the use of acupuncture and moxibustion in treating various health conditions.
The conference also included an exhibition of traditional medicine products and services, showcasing the potential of traditional medicine in various fields, including cosmetics, wellness, and lifestyle.
The conference was a significant step towards promoting traditional medicine and creating awareness about its potential. It provided a platform for various stakeholders to come together and share their ideas and experiences on the development and promotion of traditional medicine.
