It was announced at a function in the capital of Meghalaya that Digital India Startup Hub, through the Software Technology Parks of India, would set up India’s first Centre of Excellence in Online Gaming in Shillong by March 2023. The Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology and Skills Development & Entrepreneurship, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, made this announcement at the function.
“Chandrasekhar was quoted as saying during an interaction with journalists in Shillong on Friday that the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji had a vision that the next wave of startups and entrepreneurs must come from Shillong, Kohima, and other parts of the Northeast. According to the Minister, the Government is relaunching Skill India, an initiative that will train around 50,000 youth in Meghalaya with future ready skills and offer them job opportunities that are backed by the industry.
The Minister announced another initiative of MeitY to set up a state-of-the-art facility under the National Institute of Electronics and IT (NIELIT) to provide training on cutting edge Digital Skills at Shillong. It is expected that a 10-acre campus will be ready soon for this purpose, which will cater to the skilling needs of the North East.
Shillong’s Centre of Excellence is expected to catalyze start-ups and entrepreneurs to develop an online gaming ecosystem for the Next Generation. As far as other states in the North East Region are concerned, the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship under PMKVY 4.0 has set a target to skill around 60,000 youth in Tripura and 35,000 in Nagaland across a spectrum of approved courses.
In order for the North East Region to take advantage of job opportunities and entrepreneurial opportunities, the new wave of entrepreneurs and start-ups must come from Shillong, Kohima and other parts of the region. fast-expanding Digital economy is an article of faith for the Government.
