The highly anticipated superhero film, “The Flash,” starring Ezra Miller, faced a challenging start at the Indian box office as it encountered stiff competition from the blockbuster release, “Adipurush.” On its opening day, “The Flash” managed to collect approximately Rs 4 crores nett, showing a decent initial response from audiences. However, the film experienced a sharp decline on its second day, earning around Rs 2.75 crores nett, resulting in a cumulative two-day total of Rs 6.75 crores nett.

The emergence of “Adipurush,” with its solid first-day numbers, posed a significant threat to “The Flash,” causing its performance to plummet. Despite the setback, there is hope for redemption over the weekend, with the aim of matching the opening day’s figures. If Saturday and Sunday perform as anticipated, “The Flash” is projected to accumulate a total of approximately Rs 14-15 crores nett over the extended weekend. While these figures are below average, the dominance of “Adipurush,” as the preferred movie choice among Indian audiences, undoubtedly impacted the performance of “The Flash.”

The decline in the market appeal of DC films in India is evident, as seen in the modest success of the previous release, “Shazam,” which struggled to surpass the Rs 10 crore India nett mark. When the overall cinematic universe fails to generate significant interest, individual films associated with it also suffer in terms of box office numbers. Although Marvel films have also faced challenges in the Indian market, their vast fanbase provides them with a distinct advantage over DC films.

In 2023, “Fast X” continues to reign as the highest-earning Hollywood film in India, surpassing Rs 100 crores in nett collections. However, “The Flash” has yet to achieve such impressive figures. Internationally, the film is expected to open with approximately $140 million, with projections suggesting a total gross of $350-400 million throughout its theatrical run. While these numbers may appear underwhelming compared to other blockbusters, it remains to be seen how “The Flash” will fare in the global market.

The day-wise nett India box office collections of “The Flash” are as follows:

Day 1: Rs 4 crores
Day 2: Rs 2.75 crores
Total: Rs 6.75 crores nett after 2 days in India.

Despite the initial challenges faced by “The Flash” in India, its performance over the weekend will be crucial in determining its long-term success. The film aims to recover some ground and attract audiences despite tough competition from “Adipurush” and the prevailing popularity of Marvel films in the country.
