The Danapur civil court premises in Bihar’s Patna district witnessed a gruesome incident on Friday, as undertrial prisoner Abhishek, also known as Chhote Sarkar, was shot and killed while being escorted to a trial court. The victim, a resident of Sikandarpur, was facing murder charges, and the assailants struck during his transfer from the lock-up to the trial proceedings.

The tragic incident unfolded around 2 pm, with two armed assailants ambushing Abhishek within the court premises. Despite efforts to escape, both attackers were swiftly apprehended by the people present at the scene. The outraged crowd took matters into their own hands, beating the accused before turning them over to the police. Identified as residents of Muzaffarpur, the assailants now face the consequences of their alleged involvement in this heinous crime.

Abhishek suffered four bullet injuries, including three to the stomach and one to the head. Despite being rushed to Sadar Hospital, the medical team declared him brought dead, highlighting the severity of the attack. Eyewitnesses recount a harrowing scene, describing how the armed men indiscriminately fired over eight rounds at the undertrial prisoner as soon as the escort party brought him to court.

The incident raises serious concerns about the security and safety measures within the judicial system, especially during the transportation of undertrial prisoners. The audacity of such an attack within the premises of a civil court reflects a blatant disregard for the rule of law and the sanctity of legal institutions.

Law enforcement agencies now face the challenging task of conducting a thorough investigation to unravel the motives behind this brazen act of violence. Questions regarding the security protocols in place during the prisoner’s transfer and the identities of the assailants demand immediate attention.

About The Public’s Respond:

The public’s response, intervening to apprehend the attackers, underscores the shared responsibility in upholding the principles of justice and order. However, it also sheds light on the gravity of the situation, where citizens feel compelled to take matters into their own hands due to perceived lapses in the system.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the tragic death of Abhishek alias Chhote Sarkar serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities within the criminal justice system. It calls for a comprehensive review of security protocols and an examination of the broader challenges faced by law enforcement in ensuring the safety of individuals in their custody. The incident leaves a lingering sense of unease, prompting a collective reflection on the state of our judicial institutions and the imperative for urgent reforms.
