Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on an official state visit to Washington DC on June 22, following an invitation from United States President Joe Biden. The announcement of the visit was made jointly by the governments of India and the US in New Delhi and Washington DC.

President Biden will host a state dinner in honor of Prime Minister Modi, highlighting the significance of their bilateral relationship.This visit comes at a crucial time as India continues to maintain a strategic balance in its relations with both Moscow and Washington DC. It is scheduled just a couple of weeks before Prime Minister Modi will host Russian President Vladimir Putin for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in New Delhi on July 3 and 4. The summit is expected to be attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, and other leaders of the SCO.Furthermore, President Biden himself will travel to New Delhi later in the year to attend the G20 summit, which Prime Minister Modi will host on September 9 and 10. While Modi has visited the US multiple times since becoming Prime Minister in 2014, this upcoming visit will mark his first official state visit to Washington DC. It will also be his second visit to the US since President Biden assumed office in January 2021.The visit is expected to strengthen the partnership between the United States and India, focusing on various areas of cooperation such as defense, clean energy, and space. Discussions will also cover educational exchanges, people-to-people ties, climate change, workforce development, and health security.

Additionally, the leaders will explore opportunities to enhance collaboration in plurilateral and multilateral forums, including the G20 and the Quad.The visit underscores the growing importance of the strategic partnership between India and the US across multiple sectors. It presents a valuable opportunity to deepen the comprehensive and forward-looking global strategic partnership between the two countries. The leaders will review bilateral cooperation in technology, trade, industry, education, research, clean energy, defense, security, healthcare, and people-to-people connections. The visit holds great potential for further strengthening the relationship between India and the US.
