Woman Arrested for Fatally Stabbing Flatmate over Father’s Disrespectful Remarks

Delhi Police took a 34-year-old woman into custody on Tuesday after she allegedly murdered her flatmate in the early hours of the morning in Majnu Ka Tila, a neighborhood in north Delhi. The suspect, identified as Sapna, reportedly stabbed her roommate, Rani, to death during a heated altercation that ensued after a dinner party. The incident occurred after the two women returned to their rented flat following the gathering.

Sapna, who worked as a waitress, claimed that Rani, a beautician, had spoken disrespectfully about her deceased father, who had passed away three months prior. Upon receiving a call to the police control room (PCR) around 7 am, officers arrived at the scene to discover Rani’s lifeless body in a pool of blood. During subsequent questioning, Sapna broke down and confessed to the crime. She revealed that the argument escalated into a physical fight, during which she resorted to using a kitchen knife to fatally stab Rani in the chest. Rani was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Authorities have initiated a murder case against Sapna under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Civil Lines police station. The suspect, who is divorced and has a daughter, is cooperating with the investigation. Forensic and crime teams have examined the crime scene, and efforts are underway to recover the murder weapon. Following the postmortem examination, Rani’s body will be handed over to her family for final rites.
