In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves across Kerala, an innocent migrant worker, identified as Rajesh Manjhi, was brutally lynched by a violent mob in the Kizhissery area. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday, May 13, following allegations of theft against Manjhi. The Kerala police swiftly responded to the incident, arresting eight individuals believed to be involved in the heinous crime. Rajesh Manjhi, a 36-year-old native of Bihar’s east Champaran district, had recently arrived in Kondotty seeking employment opportunities. Tragically, his hopes were shattered when he fell victim to an unfounded accusation. The accused mob captured him from a house along the Kizhissery-Thavanur road, where they subjected him to a merciless assault.

Police were alerted to the incident at 3:25 am and rushed to the crime scene, finding the grievously injured victim lying by the wayside. Despite the immediate medical attention provided, Manjhi succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at a local hospital. A subsequent post-mortem examination revealed the extent of the horrific attack, exposing multiple wounds inflicted on the deceased. District Police Chief Sujit Das condemned the brutal act, stating that the victim had been tied up and savagely beaten with sticks and plastic pipes. The investigation into the lynching incident has revealed that the accused individuals made attempts to destroy evidence, including CCTV footage.

Additionally, they claimed that Manjhi had fallen from the first floor of a house during a failed theft attempt, a narrative that the police are currently verifying. The family of the deceased has been notified of the tragic demise. The arrest of eight suspects in connection with this appalling crime offers hope for justice to be served. However, this incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for awareness, empathy, and stricter measures to prevent such acts of violence against vulnerable individuals. The Kerala police are determined to thoroughly investigate the case and ensure that all those responsible for the lynching face the full force of the law.
