In a tragic incident that has shocked the community, an eight-year-old girl who was the victim of sexual assault passed away at Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital less than a week after being hospitalized. The young girl, who was discovered inside a manhole in Chakeri five days ago with severe injuries, succumbed to her injuries on Saturday.

The victim’s father promptly lodged a First Information Report (FIR) with the local authorities. The accused, an eight-year-old boy residing in the same locality, has been taken into custody and subsequently sent to a juvenile home, according to Amarnath Yadav, Assistant Commissioner of Police for Chakeri. The girl had gone missing on the evening of May 22, and she was later found inside the manhole with injuries on her body.

Upon examination, medical professionals noted swelling in the victim’s intestines. Initially, she was conscious and able to provide a statement to the police. She recounted that the boy from her neighborhood had forcibly assaulted her and, when she screamed, he fled, pushing her into the manhole.

Law enforcement officials promptly apprehended the accused on May 24, and a panel of doctors conducted a medical examination, during which no injuries were found on the victim’s private parts, according to an official statement. Subsequently, the boy was transferred to a juvenile home in accordance with the law.

Despite the efforts of the medical team treating her, the young girl’s condition deteriorated over time, leading to multi-organ failure, as confirmed by one of the attending doctors. Her tragic demise has left the community devastated, raising concerns about the safety and well-being of children.

This heart-wrenching incident serves as a somber reminder of the need for heightened vigilance and robust measures to protect children from such heinous crimes.
