In a recent development, the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Worli Unit apprehended a Nigerian drug peddler near Mumbai’s Mahim Railway Station, seizing methamphetamine drugs worth Rs 22 lakh from his possession. The arrest was made during a routine patrol conducted by the Mumbai Police’s Anti Narcotics Cell’s Worli unit.

According to the police, the suspect drew their attention, leading to a subsequent investigation. Upon further scrutiny, a significant quantity of methamphetamine drugs was discovered on his person. The international market value of the seized drugs is estimated to be around Rs 22 lakh. A case has been registered against the peddler under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS), and the police are now working diligently to determine the source and intended recipients of the drugs.

In a separate event, the Customs Department recently carried out the destruction of seized drugs worth over Rs 1,500 crore. The incineration of these narcotics took place at a designated facility in Mumbai, in the presence of officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. The extensive list of drugs destroyed during this operation includes 9.035 kg of cocaine, 16.633 kg of heroin, 198.1 kg of methamphetamine, 2118 grams of marijuana (ganja), and mandrax tablets.

The Customs Department’s efforts in disposing of these illicit substances highlight their commitment to combating drug trafficking and ensuring public safety. By eliminating such a large quantity of drugs, valued at an astonishing Rs 1,500 crore, authorities have dealt a significant blow to the illegal drug trade in the region.
