A complaint has been filed with the Lucknow police by the daughter of a prominent businessman, accusing her husband, mother-in-law, and brother-in-law of subjecting her to torture and demanding a dowry of Rs 30 crore. The DCP of Central Zone, Aparna Rajat Kaushik, confirmed that an FIR has been registered based on the victim’s complaint.

The victim, hailing from an influential business family in Lucknow, claimed that despite her parents’ generous gifts and an extravagant wedding in 2010, she faced continuous harassment for more dowry. She alleged that her in-laws taunted her, belittling the dowry they received as insufficient. Moreover, she endured physical abuse whenever she opposed their demands.

In an attempt to salvage her marriage, the victim was compelled to seek assistance from her maternal uncle, who arranged a business contract for her husband. This endeavor earned him a substantial sum of Rs 4 crore. However, the dowry harassment did not cease. The victim further described an incident where her mother-in-law slapped her, while her husband forcefully dragged her by her hair, ultimately pushing her to the ground.

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter to ascertain the truth and bring justice to the victim. Dowry harassment remains a prevalent issue in many parts of society, and cases like these underline the urgent need for stringent measures to combat this social malaise.
