Kerala’s educational landscape was shaken by the untimely demise of Sarang, a 16-year-old prodigy and Class 10 topper from Thiruvananthapuram. Just two days before the eagerly awaited Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) results were to be declared, Sarang succumbed to injuries sustained in a devastating road accident. However, amidst the heartbreak, his noble act of organ donation provided a glimmer of hope. Sarang, an exceptional student who achieved an overall A plus in the SSLC exams, brought a ray of sunshine into the lives of six individuals through his selfless act. During the announcement of the SSLC results, General Education Minister V Sivankutty took a moment to pay tribute to Sarang. Emotionally moved by the young prodigy’s untimely departure, the minister lauded Sarang’s dedication and perseverance. The minister also commended Sarang’s family for their extraordinary decision to donate his organs, acknowledging their role in granting a new lease of life to others. Health Minister Veena George, through a heartfelt Facebook post, disclosed the invaluable gifts bestowed upon others by Sarang’s organ donation. His two kidneys, liver, heart valve, and two corneas have become a beacon of hope for those in desperate need of transplantation.
Sarang’s life took a tragic turn when he met with an accident on the Kallambalam-Nagarur Road on May 13. While attempting to allow another vehicle to pass, the auto-rickshaw he was traveling in lost control, colliding with an electric pole and overturning. Transported to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, Sarang fought bravely for survival but was declared brain-dead on Wednesday, devastating his loved ones and the community. The legacy of Sarang, a brilliant mind and a compassionate soul, will forever remain etched in the hearts of those he touched. His academic accomplishments and his act of organ donation serve as a testament to his extraordinary character and the immeasurable impact one individual can have on the lives of others.
