In a heroic operation, the Indian Army successfully rescued 500 stranded tourists, including 54 children, who were trapped in north Sikkim due to heavy rainfall and subsequent landslides. The downpour caused roadblocks and landslides in the regions of Lachen, Lachung, and Chungthang, leaving the travelers stranded at Chungthang. Responding promptly to a request from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Chungthang, the troops of Trishakti Corps, Indian Army, swiftly swung into action to ensure the safety of the stranded individuals.

The rescued group comprised 216 men, 113 women, and 54 children, who were relocated to three different army camps. The army officials ensured that the stranded tourists were provided with hot meals and warm clothing, alleviating their discomfort caused by the adverse weather conditions. The troops even vacated their barracks to accommodate the rescued individuals, ensuring their comfort throughout the night. To address any health concerns, three medical teams were formed to conduct thorough check-ups on all the travelers. Fortunately, the initial medical evaluations conducted by the army medical teams indicated that all the tourists were in stable condition. However, one woman, who had visited Gurudongmar Lake, exhibited symptoms of acute mountain sickness, including severe headaches and dizziness.

Immediate medical attention was provided, and she was swiftly shifted to an intensive care unit in a nearby medical hospital. As of the latest update, her condition remains stable. The Indian Army’s quick response and efficient execution of the rescue operation prevented any mishaps and ensured the safety of the stranded tourists. The army officials are diligently working to clear the roads for vehicular movement as soon as possible, allowing the tourists to continue their journey. Until the routes are fully cleared, the rescued individuals will receive all the necessary assistance and support from the authorities. This commendable effort by the Indian Army highlights their commitment to serving and safeguarding the well-being of the people, even in challenging circumstances.
