Meta Platform Inc’s popular social media platform, Instagram, experienced a significant technical issue on Sunday, disrupting services for a substantial number of users. However, the company confirmed that the issue has been resolved and the platform is now back up for most users. A Meta spokesperson stated, “Earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Instagram. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted.”

The spokesperson did not disclose the exact number of users affected by the disruption. According to outage tracking website Downdetector.com, the incident led to more than 180,000 users reporting issues with accessing Instagram at its peak. The website recorded over 100,000 incidents in the United States, 24,000 in Canada, and more than 56,000 in Britain. The disruption began around 5:45 p.m. EST (2145 GMT) on Sunday, as reported by Downdetector.com. However, by 8:30 p.m. EST, the number of outages had significantly decreased to just over 7,000 reports.

This widespread Instagram outage sparked frustration among users who rely on the platform for various purposes, including social networking, content sharing, and business promotions. Instagram, being one of the largest social media platforms globally, has a massive user base, making any disruptions highly noticeable. With services now restored, affected users can once again access and utilize the features provided by Instagram. The incident serves as a reminder of the technical challenges that social media platforms occasionally face, impacting users’ ability to connect and engage on these platforms.
